HINT is now a certified ICIP partner with INVENEO, USA

Inveneo is a non-profit social enterprise whose mission is to get the tools of ICT into the hands of organizations and people who need them most: those in remote and rural communities in the developing world.

To do this, Inveneo creates and sells highly affordable and sustainable ICTs that are specifically designed for organizations — governments, NGOs, private enterprises — that serve these rural communities with vital services that include education, healthcare, economic development, relief and telecenters. Our ICTs are designed to overcome challenges that these organizations face:

  • Lack of dependable, if any, electricity
  • Extremely high cost of power
  • Prevalence of heat, dust, moisture and humidity, often punishing conditions for ICTs
  • Lack of affordable access to Internet and telephony services
  • Novice users and administrators

This partnership follows HINT’s participation in Inveneo’s workshop in Cameroon in November 2007.

Becoming a certified ICIP means we can sell and install Inveneo equipment.

Microcredit Job Opportunities @ HINT

Helps International needs the services of 1 Loan Officer and 4 Field Workers

Loan Officer Qualifications:

Minimum of First Degree in Banking and finance or related field. Will be responsible for management, etc of our microcredit program.

Field Officer Qualifications:

Minimum of A/L in Commercial Subjects (including Accounting). Will be responsible for Credit Groups in the field. (Formation, communication, monitoring, etc)

Conditions

All must be female

Celebrate World Food Day this Thursday October 16 in a unique way.

Share a meal with your family, friends, co-workers or neighbours and remember the over 850 million people who know what it’s like to go to bed hungry every night around the world. Let your FOOD become FUNDS that will FEED a life!

As an organization, we have been actively involved in helping people come out of poverty in practical ways by building life skills and providing micro-loans for business start-up or expansion through funds we raise during our annual fund raiser – Food For Funds.

In 2007, Brian & Christe Dodds in Dallas/Fort Worth, USA decided to help and through their effort about $3000 was raised and this amount impacted the lives of about 30 women and over 210 people indirectly. HINT distributes 2nd round of loans to successful women entrepreneurs

We are happy to have ended the last sequence of the loans that were collected from HINT during which we serve close to 30 women. We are happy for all the efforts put in towards these loans and wish to congratulate you all for every contribution you made. We have now started the second round of loans. As for now 10 women from two credit groups have received the loans to the tune of 900,000 FCFA.

5 women from the Dominion Sisters Credit group received 450,000 FCFA on the 29th August 2008, while 5 from the Zion Women Credit Group received 450,000 FCFA on the 12th September 2008. After showing their gratitude and how much the last loans helped in increasing their business and family status, the second loans gradually gets them to qualify for the interest free loans from HINT.

Back Packs 2008 support over 30 underprivileged children

Back Packs 2008 took place on 28th September 2008 in Buea. This program reached out to about 30 kids from mostly the primary school while the Joseph and Heather Talbot Prize was awarded to Mr. Akembom Pascal, HINT’s Administrative Assistant and Manager of our Bonduma IT Centre for his selfless service to the people of Buea through HINT. This annual prize is given in memory of Joseph & Heather Talbot who volunteered selflessly at HINT for 12 months during 2006/2007

Without this support, many of these children will not be able to go to school and most of them will perform poorly in school.

After going through all the application forms four (5) qualified children were given full support for one year, while the rest received partial support depending on the needs they had put forth in their request. Unfortunately, we could not be of help to all the needy children identified due to our limited financial resources.

However, we wish to thank all who donated for Back Packs 2008 and hope that you will continue to support this program in the coming years. We raised just a little over FCFA 300,000 and spent a lot more than that. Thank you tot all our donors.
