More than 120 kids participate in HINT’s first ever Football Tournament

HINT's First Ever Football Tournament

More than 120 kids participate in HINT’s first ever Football Tournament.

The one-day event took place at the Molyko Omnisport Stadium and we are thankful the Mayor of the city for making that possible.

8 teams competed for the trophy and at the end Muea FC coached by William Tabi made it to the top.

Andro Mandakovic, a volunteer from Chile was shocked by the fact that while the bigger boys played soccer nearly everywhere during the holidays, the younger boys (aged 12-14) were busy either selling or walking long distances to carry water. He decided he would do something to give these younger boys a chance. Th result was HINT first ever football tournament that saw the participation of over 120 kids organized in 8 teams of about 15 each.

Thank you Andro for your creativity and hard work in making the tournament a reality.

Pictures speak louder than words. Go here to see them.

Government Technical High School Buea receives lab with 39 computers

GTHS Molyko Computer Lab

This morning, we handed over our biggest ever computer lab project to the staff and administration of Government Technical High School, Molyko, Buea. The lab has 39 computers (36 from HINT and 3 from the school), two Switches and a specially configured server yet to arrive.

Photos are here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2090027&id=1033002406&l=f1a89d4326

We would like to thank the following organisation for their partnership in this project: Computers 4 Africa (UK), Develop Africa (USA). As I write this, I am thinking about a popular proverb in my dialect that says “A single hand cannot tie a bundle”. Its about partnership! We look forward to doing more in the future!

We would also like to thank the following volunteers for their tireless efforts in realising this project: Eric and Kristi Zan, Amber Shevin, Brandon Turner, Robert Arlt Jr and Andro Mandakovic. Eric & Kristi have especially worked so hard to get the GTHS lab up and going. Thank you very much. Also, John Jones and Jerry, part of the HINT team have also worked hard towards realisation of this project.

The next container arrives in a few days from the UK. We need volunteers and grants to help schools get the labs at very reduced cost. Anything you can do to get funds and volunteers will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Burglary at HINT

September 19, 2010 by hint Leave a Comment

When we walked in to HINT’s office on Wednesday morning (Sept 1, 2010), we realised that thieves had broken in to the centre the previous night.

A quick check revealed that they went away with money and equipment estimated at xaf 4,427,000 (about usd 8,640).

Very unfortunately, my personal laptop with over 50GB of information and other private data is gone together with an external 250GB of storage space I was using for backup.

We alerted the police, though they seem helpless themselves, complaining to us about their lack of staff and resources as we complained to them. You know there’s little or nothing they can do. Rather I believe some how, God will help us resurrect again. We have been closed since then as most of the equipment was carried away.

We would like to continue with our work but that would be difficult without support from elsewhere.

At this time, I do request that you pray for us to be able to recover from the loss and that some how, God will turn the loss into gain. Praise God with us that they took things away, not our lives. It is difficult to take it when investments made over several years disappear overnight.

Thank you for your prayers at this difficult time.

Genesis G. Tinshu

Executive Director

Graceland Lab
Graceland Lab

It took so long, it took so many people working together but we are happy that finally the lab was completed and handed over to the school.

Graceland International Bilingual School with about 200 children and nearly 15 staff, now has access to computers to help both children and teachers alike learn better. They also received a scanner and printer.

The total cost of the lab was XAF 1,065,210.

The School paid 40% = 549,084 and HINT with support made available by its volunteers provided the remaining 60% = XAF 606,126 as a grant to the school.

We would like to sincerely thank all those that are working together to make this possible, especially the following organisations:

  • Develop Africa Inc, USA (Provided funding and volunteers)
  • Computers 4 Africa, UK (Provided Computers and accessories)
  • Digital Links, UK (Provided Computers)

The following volunteers also contributed not just money to make this lab possible but also their time, skills and expertise:
